THINGS FINLEY HART DOESN’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT
• Her parents, who are having problems. (But they pretend like they’re not.)
• Being sent to her grandparents’ house for the summer.
• Never having met said grandparents.
• Her blue days—when life feels overwhelming, and it’s hard to keep her head up. (This happens a lot.)

Finley’s only retreat is the Everwood, a forest kingdom that exists in the pages of her notebook. Until she discovers the endless woods behind her grandparents’ house and realizes the Everwood is real--and holds more mysteries than she'd ever imagined, including a family of pirates that she isn’t allowed to talk to, trees covered in ash, and a strange old wizard living in a house made of bones.

With the help of her cousins, Finley sets out on a mission to save the dying Everwood and uncover its secrets. But as the mysteries pile up and the frightening sadness inside her grows, Finley realizes that if she wants to save the Everwood, she’ll first have to save herself.
Reality and fantasy collide in this powerful, heartfelt novel about family, depression, and the power of imagination.

English Books on my wishlist #46

18.5.18

Rubrica a cadenza casuale in cui vi mostro le mie nuove scoperte libresche in lingua inglese.
Nuovo appuntamento con la rubrica "English Books on my wishlist", che manca da un po' sul blog.
Titolo: The Surface Breaks
Autore: Louise O'Neill
Trama:
Deep beneath the sea, off the cold Irish coast, Gaia is a young mermaid who dreams of freedom from her controlling father. On her first swim to the surface, she is drawn towards a human boy. She longs to join his carefree world, but how much will she have to sacrifice? What will it take for the little mermaid to find her voice? Hans Christian Andersen's original fairy tale is reimagined through a searing feminist lens, with the stunning, scalpel-sharp writing and world building that has won Louise her legions of devoted fans. A book with the darkest of undercurrents, full of rage and rallying cries: storytelling at its most spellbinding.
Titolo: To Kill a Kingdom
Autore: Alexandra Christo
Trama:
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?
Titolo: Sea Witch
Autore: Sarah Henning
Trama:
Everyone knows what happens in the end.
A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss.
But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends.
One feared, one royal, and one already dead.
~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch.
A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.
But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain.
The rise of Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic villainess is a heart-wrenching story of friendship, betrayal, and a girl pushed beyond her limits—to become a monster.
Autoboyography
Trama:
Three years ago, Tanner Scott’s family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.
But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High’s prestigious Seminar—where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester—Tanner can’t resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.
It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.
The smell of other's people house
Trama:
Dora wonders if she can ever truly escape where she comes from, even when good luck strikes. Alyce is trying to reconcile her desire to dance, with the life she’s always known on her family’s fishing boat. Hank and his brothers decide it’s safer to run away than to stay home—until one of them ends up in terrible danger.
Four very different lives are about to become entangled.
The Hazel Wood
Trama:
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: her mother is stolen away―by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”
Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother's tales began―and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong.
Some Quiet Place
Trama:I can’t weep. I can’t fear. I’ve grown talented at pretending.
Elizabeth Caldwell doesn’t feel emotions . . . she sees them. Longing, Shame, and Courage materialize around her classmates. Fury and Resentment appear in her dysfunctional home. They’ve all given up on Elizabeth because she doesn’t succumb to their touch. All, that is, save one—Fear. He’s intrigued by her, as desperate to understand the accident that changed Elizabeth’s life as she is herself.
Elizabeth and Fear both sense that the key to her past is hidden in the dream paintings she hides in the family barn. But a shadowy menace has begun to stalk her, and try as she might, Elizabeth can barely avoid the brutality of her life long enough to uncover the truth about herself. When it matters most, will she be able to rely on Fear to save her?
Rubrica a cadenza casuale in cui vi mostro le mie nuove scoperte libresche in lingua inglese.
Buon sabato miei cari lettori!
So che ultimamente sto pubblicando meno post del solito, ma il mio maledetto blocco del lettore non accenna a passare, e il tempo per preparare post ultimamente è poco...pensate che sono addirittura più indietro del solito con le serie tv, tanto per farvi capire in che condizioni sono!
Comunque, oggi, nuovo appuntamento con la rubrica dedicata ai libri in lingua, con tre romanzi che sembrano davvero interessanti. Fatemi sapere se li avete già letti, o se fanno già parte della vostra wishlist :)
Titolo: All th Crooked Saints
Autore: Maggie Stiefvater
Trama:
Here is a thing everyone wants: a miracle.
Here is a thing everyone fears: what it takes to get one.
Any visitor to Bicho Raro, Colorado is likely to find a landscape of dark saints, forbidden love, scientific dreams, miracle-mad owls, estranged affections, one or two orphans, and a sky full of watchful desert stars.
At the heart of this place you will find the Soria family, who all have the ability to perform unusual miracles. And at the heart of this family are three cousins longing to change its future: Beatriz, the girl without feelings, who wants only to be free to examine her thoughts; Daniel, the Saint of Bicho Raro, who performs miracles for everyone but himself; and Joaquin, who spends his nights running a renegade radio station under the name Diablo Diablo.
They are all looking for a miracle. But the miracles of Bicho Raro are never quite what you expect.
Titolo: Shannon  Hale
Autore: Book of a thousand days
Trama:
When Dashti, a maid, and Lady Saren, her mistress, are shut in a tower for seven years because of Saren's refusal to marry a man she despises, the two prepare for a very long and dark imprisonment.
As food runs low and the days go from broiling hot to freezing cold, it is all Dashti can do to keep them fed and comfortable. With the arrival outside the tower of Saren's two suitors--one welcome, the other decidedly less so--the girls are confronted with both hope and great danger, and Dashti must make the desperate choices of a girl whose life is worth more than she knows.
With Shannon Hale's lyrical language, this little-known classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm is reimagined and reset on the central Asian steppes; it is a completely unique retelling filled with adventure and romance, drama and disguise.
Titolo: An enchantment of  ravens
Autore: Margaret Rogerson
Trama:
A skilled painter must stand up to the ancient power of the faerie courts—even as she falls in love with a faerie prince—in this gorgeous debut novel.
Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes—a weakness that could cost him his life.
Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunt’s ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then love—and that love violates the fair folks’ ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit, unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.
Recap 2017 - Le letture migliori dell'anno
30.12.17
E' tempo di tirare le somme di questo 2017, parlandovi delle letture migliori che ho fatto quest'anno.
Devo dire che scegliere è stato molto difficile, perchè di libri belli ne ho letti davvero parecchi, e sebbene pochi abbiano preso il massimo dei voti, ho invece dovuto escludere molti libri a cui avevo assegnato ♥♥♥♥/ e mezzo  perchè l'elenco altrimenti sarebbe stato davvero, davvero troppo lungo.
Siccome sono dodici libri, direi di non perderci ulteriormente in chiacchiere! :)
IO SONO BUIO
Recensione
Il libro di Kristen White mi ha sorpreso davvero tantissimo, in particolar modo per la sua protagonista, Laia, un personaggio femminile totalmente differente da quelli che siamo abituati ad incontrare. Se cercate quindi, una protagonista tostissima, forte e che non si fa mettere i piedi in testa da nessuno, questo libro fa al caso vostro. Nella speranza che nel 2018 esca il seguito della serie, ovviamente!
L'OMBRA DEL VENTO
Sul libro di Zafòn c'è poco da dire, leggetelo! Dalla mia recensione penso si intuisca pienamente quanto io sia rimasta entusiasta da questo romanzo - in particolar modo - ma anche dagli altri libri della serie.
I NOSTRI CUORI CHIMICI
Letto all'inizio del 2017, I nostri cuori chimici, nonostante le recensioni più che positive al riguardo, è stato comunque una piacevole sorpresa. Sicuramente prima o poi lo rileggerò!
INTENSO COME UN RICORDO
Ho letto il romanzo della Picoult questa estate, e sebbene solitamente non ami particolarmente leggere libri del genere, è stata una lettura davvero toccante, per quanto cruda e intensa.
UNA FIAMMA NELLA NOTTE
Non potevo assolutamente non inserire in questa lista, il secondo capitolo della serie di Sabaa Tahir, che con il suo primo libro, Il dominio del fuoco, è riuscita pienamente a conquistare il mio cuoricino!
IL TRONO DI SPADE
Anche se non sono riuscita ad andare oltre il secondo libro (conto però di farlo nel 2018!), i primi due volume della serie, mi sono piaciuti molto, e sono curiosa di scoprire come libri e serie tv si differenzieranno man mano che proseguirò con la storia.
STORIE DELLA BUONANOTTE PER BAMBINE RIBELLI
Questo non è un vero e proprio romanzo, ma ho trovato questo libro, un'idea davvero carinissima, e devo dire che ho trovata ogni storia più interessante e curiosa dell'altra. Se non l'avete ancora letto, fatelo, perchè le donne protagoniste  di questi "racconti", sono davvero d'ispirazione.
L'ULTIMA NOTTE AL MONDO
L'ultima notte al mondo, di Bianca Marconero, è senza dubbio tra i romanzi più belli che ho letto quest'anno, perchè così come mi era successo con "La prima cosa bella", anche questa volta ho adorato lo stile dell'autrice, che ha reso a storia scorrevolissima e molto coinvolgente.
ALWAYS AND FOREVER LARA JEAN
Trama
Inserire l'ultimo volume della carinissima e tenerissima serie di Jenny Han, era quasi d'obbligo. Pur avendo trovato qualche difettuccio in questa trilogia, Lara Jean e gli altri protagonista della storia, sono talmente adorabili, che alla Han, si può perdonare tutto!
IO E TE COME UN ROMANZO
Altra bellissima sorpresa di questo 2017, è stato "Io e te come un romanzo", perchè oltre ad essere una storia molto carina, ho adorato il fatto che al suo interno si parli tanto di libri e amore per la letteratura, il che ha reso i protagonisti ancora più simpatici e affabili.
RAGAZZE LUPO
Per quanto riguarda Ragazze lupo, in realtà si tratta di una rilettura che ho fatto quest'anno, perchè l'avevo già letto diversi anni fa. Così come la prima volta, il libro mi è piaciuto davvero tanto, e se cercate un fantasy ben costruito e dalla storia approfondita, originale e con una protagonista molto particolare, il libro di Millar, è consigliatissimo.
Le vostre letture più belle di questo 2017, invece, quali sono state?
Titolo: The Upside of Unrequited
Autore:  Becky Albertalli
Trama:
Seventeen-year-old Molly Peskin-Suso knows all about unrequited love—she’s lived through it twenty-six times. She crushes hard and crushes often, but always in secret. Because no matter how many times her twin sister, Cassie, tells her to woman up, Molly can’t stomach the idea of rejection. So she’s careful. Fat girls always have to be careful.
Then a cute new girl enters Cassie’s orbit, and for the first time ever, Molly’s cynical twin is a lovesick mess. Meanwhile, Molly’s totally not dying of loneliness—except for the part where she is. Luckily, Cassie’s new girlfriend comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick. Will is funny and flirtatious and just might be perfect crush material. Maybe more than crush material. And if Molly can win him over, she’ll get her first kiss and she’ll get her twin back.
There’s only one problem: Molly’s coworker Reid. He’s an awkward Tolkien superfan with a season pass to the Ren Faire, and there’s absolutely no way Molly could fall for him. Right?
Titolo: One of us is lying
